(More customer reviews)If I were writing this review just on the weights/dumbbells, I would have given 5 stars. The weights are great, and their color is unique, and their grip great. Also, their unique shape makes exercises such as skull crushers, hammer curls, and front shoulder raises easier to grab the dumbbell by the top. However, I am rating this product as a whole, that means with the stand included. First of all, the stand is weak and plastic with two metal clips that slide into it to hold the weights. If you ask me, it is just for looks, and not to move the "dumbbell tree" around with, even though that handle on top looks rather deceiving. Do not pick this tree up by the handle or your toes will hurt as the weights come rolling off! Other than the stand, these weights are great! Get a new stand if you can !

(More customer reviews)If you're looking for some lightweight, fixed dumbbells, these should work just fine. The neoprene handles make them comfortable to grip- as opposed to those that are bare metal (some of those metal ones with "hatch marks" on the grip are downright painful). Also, these dumbbells won't be falling apart anytime soon. The worst that will happen to them over the long run, is that the covering will start to wear down- however you'll still be able to use them for your exercises despite that. In other words, a pair of these are going to last you awhile. One tip though, when they do start to wear down, most of the time its on an edge. Therefore, always placing them on a soft a surface as possible will be easier on the neoprene and make the covering last longer. Metal dumbbell racks can take their toll that way.
The only downside to buying dumbbells such as these is that the weight is set. In other words, for any given exercise, you'll only be able to get "5 pounds strong". For example, if you can lift a 5-pound dumbbell 10 times, and you continue to lift it 10 times, week after week, you'll never get any stronger. That's because the human body is efficient, and your muscles say, "If I can already lift 5-pounds, and that's all they ever want me to lift, then I don't have any reason to get bigger or stronger so I'm going to stay just the way I am."
Therefore, if you can use a 5-pound dumbbell quite easily with your exercises, and you want to get stronger, you're going to have to add a pound or two. And then, you're going to have to go out and buy another dumbbell, say a 6 or 7 pound one, in order to progress and get stronger. And that was my point- fixed dumbbells are set, so a disadvantage is that if you want to continue to get stronger you'll have to go out and buy more dumbbells. Tip: if you think you're going to need more weight in the furture, look into buying a pair of ADJUSTABLE dumbbells instead. Just a thought.
All-in-all a good product, and I highly recommend them if you're in the market for a pair of fixed dumbbells, especially good if you're doing rehab exercises, like for your rotator cuff. People with tendonitis might also be interested in Treat Your Own Tennis Elbow.

(More customer reviews)I ordered 4 sets of Body Solid vinyl dumbbells from Sam's Club online and their prices are unbelievable! One 5-pound weight is selling for $5.58, which is 50% less than what Amazon is selling them for. The only bad thing about buying online from Sam's Club is that they charge state tax and shipping & handling. However, it was still cheaper to purchase the dumbbells from Sam's Club than Amazon, even with paying the extra money for tax and shipping. Apparently, Sam's Club gets the weights directly from the manufacturer. I was very pleased with their packaging job. They actually double-boxed the weights and included a lot of packing material. I made the mistake of ordering a set of Body Solid dumbbells from Amazon and they came all beat up. They hardly put in any packing material to cushion the weights.
If you're a member of Sam's Club, go to their online website and set up an account with your membership number. I ordered a lot of different neoprene dumbbells before settling on a brand (Valeo, Cap Barbell sold at Walmart, Savasa, Embark brand sold at Target). I have been the most impressed with the quality of the Body Solid vinyl dumbbells. I was hesitant about purchasing vinyl because I was afraid of chipping, but these things are so heavy duty that they seem impervious to almost anything. They're also much easier to clean with anti-bacterial wipes than neoprene. I also like that the colors match each other there isn't a discrepancy between the shades (i.e., the two blue dumbbells match each other). Another point about these dumbbells is that the handles are not too thick, even as the dumbbells get heavier in weight. For example, the handles of the 12 lb. dumbbells aren't so bulky that they're more difficult to hold compared to a lighter set of dumbbells. Best of all, there's no funky odors! I like that I can use the weights and my hands don't smell funny afterwards.
I'm going back to order more pairs from Sam's Club. A word of caution -- just like Amazon, they sell the dumbbells individually, so make sure to put 2 of them in your cart. Sam's Club shipped them via FedEx (ground is the cheapest) and I still received them in about 4 days. Enjoy!

I was thinking that the unique shape and design would be a 2-for-1 deal, where I could get a 7 lb. set and double them up to use as 14 lbs. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in these weights. First of all, I ordered the 5 lb. and 7 lb. weight sets from Amazon, which are supposed to be pink and purple, respectively. However, both sets were gray. Okay, no big deal. But what I didn't like was the color discrepancies between the weights. It looked like all of the weights came from different color batches. While one weight looked like a certain shade of gray, it's other half was a completely different shade. Some weights even had a yellowish tint that just looked nasty. And no, I don't have a dog that went to town on them. The light gray color didn't hold up well in shipping at all -- every pair I received had black marks or some kind of color stain issue from the packaging. I was hoping that maybe I got a couple of defective or damaged sets, but nope -- I had a total of 4 sets sent to me from Amazon and they all had the same problem. Another issue I discovered with the weights was the neoprene coating -- on some weights it was shiny and on other weights it was matte. I finally got tired of looking at these ugly things and sent them back. Imagine how fun it was to haul 52 lbs. of weights to UPS! I know that weights aren't purchased for their aesthetic appeal, but if I'm going to spend this much money on a product I only want to buy once in my lifetime, I expect decent quality. If you can live with the neoprene and color discrepancy issues, then you'll probably enjoy these weights. If you're even a little picky about the way things look, steer clear of this product.
