Cathe Friedrich's High Reps DVD Review

I have been using Cathe faithfully for 2 years now. This video is very very nice. The workout is very intense, yet she has some different moves. :) She starts out doing leg work, like squats, and deadlifts, then to some lunges, then to back, then shoulders, then triceps/biceps, chest, then abs. The abs were a bit shorter but KILLER!!
One thing she also does in this workout is she does some curtsy lunges using sliding disks, (or paperplates if you have a rug). I didn't have paper plates, and found that using a very thin magizine worked just fine! LOL (since magazines are very slippery)..I actually used one of my victoria secret magazines LOL ;) Worked like a charm for this part.
She also does another different move by using bands while holding a dumbell for lat rows.
This entire workout clocked in about 60 min (not counting warm up and cool down). But one thing I also loved was that the warm up was light weight training..where you do squats, lunges, everything--but with lighter weight, and slowly. So that was very nice. :)
She has Premixes also :)
Here are her premixes (note-that if you chose to do the normal basic entire workout, you will do each body part-alternating lower bod, then upper).
Premixes (5)
-Upper Body Only (39:14)
-Lower Body Only (34:36)
-Full Workout: Upper Body First (64:38)
-Full Workout: Lower Body First (64:38)
-Scrambled (total body) (64:58)
This workout is not boring at all. One thing I did assume was because it was called "high reps", I thought for this workout you use very light weight, and do all the reps "fast"...since usually that is the case with a "high rep" workout. Although this one did use lighter weights in some segments, and yes, some reps were a bit fast. :) Maybe one day (just for fun), she can make a workout where you use no more then 5-8 lbs and do a ton of fast reps. :) lol..
Overall, LOVED this workout!! I plan to also use this with Intensity, and do one day- upper body using this workout-and the step cardio portion of her Intensity Dvd. Then do Lower Body from this workout, and do her bootcamp and floor aerobics from her Intensity DVD..they both go hand in hand!!!

High Reps is an intense 65 min long total body, muscular endurance workout loaded with energy, variety and of course, high reps. It features our customized rockin' soundtrack that'll make your muscles lift, pull and stretch while they reach for that last rep.Do this workout one or twotimes per week and enjoy the benefits of improved muscular endurance, a revved up metabolism, increased bone density, better muscle tone and feel energized all day long. * The format of this workout is simple:You will be doing ten songs. Each song is choreographed to music and concentrates on exhausting one muscle group at a time through the use of light-to-moderate weighted dumbbells, a barbell, a slide disc (or paper plate) and a medium tension stretch band.Focus and concentrate on each rep to bring your muscles to complete exhaustion. * It will take a few attempts to find that perfectly challenging weight for each body part.Once that "perfect" weight no longer pushes you like it did, increase your weight load. If you're new to this style of weight training, modify with lighter weights for the first few workouts. * To make High Reps more versatile, we have included five premixes for you to use at any given time to accommodate your workout needs or simply change up your workout for greater muscle confusion. *High Reps contains thefollowing five premixes: * 1. Cathe Friedrich's Core Max DVD Review

Cathe Friedrich's Core Max DVD

This DVD is great value for money - each workout is just the right length, challenging without being too difficult, and varied enough so that you won't get bored. (The "core" in the title is a little misleading, as these three workouts focus on the abdominal, rather than the back muscles.) An 8 pound medicine ball is recommended; it's used to add resistance to exercises like crunches, roll-ups and rocket shoots.
Cathe has a reputation for being hard core (no pun intended!) but I appreciate that she says things like "Don't worry if you don't have the endurance; it will come over time."
Here's a breakdown of the workouts.
Segment One - No equipment (20 minutes)
1) Supermans
2) Levitation holds
3) Hip lifts (bent leg)
4) Hip lifts (straight leg)
5) Corkscrew
6) Opposite elbow to knee
7) Reach to outside of knee
8) Frog-style crunches (both knees open to sides)
9) Crunches with straight legs in air
10) Crunches with knees bent on floor
11) Three-level crunches
12) Rope climb crunches
13) Frog style crunches (second set)
14) Three-level crunches (second set) with pulses at the top
15) Axe crunches
16) Reverse crunches
17) Crunches with arms and legs extended
18) Reverse crunches (second set)
19) Straight leg prone plank
20) Hip dip planks
Segment Two - Stability Ball (20 minutes)
1) Supermans on ball
2) Roll outs
3) Roll ins
4) Roll ins for obliques (legs pull in on an angle)
5) Pikes on the ball
6) Crunches on top of ball
7) Long lever ball exchange (holding the ball between your feet and crunching up to transfer the ball to your hands)
8) Vertical oblique rotations with legs straight in air
9) Side-to-side chops
10) Woodchops for obliques
11) Pelvic tilt crunches
Segment 3 - Stability Ball and Medicine Ball (20 minutes)

Bosu Reactive Strength and Power DVD with Gay Gasper Review

Bosu Reactive Strength and Power DVD with Gay Gasper

First, I have to say I think utilizing the Bosu in home or gym workouts really adds not only some fun to the task, but also utilizes muscles and adds core strength and balance that you wouldn't otherwise.
That said, this workout does add some fun and good strength training to it's user. It also provides a good instructor with good cueing, which is extremely important to me in a fitness dvd. I also love a workout dvd that combines both strength training AND cardio so that you not only burn instant calories, but continue to build muscle and burn calories afterwards even while at rest. My heart rate monitor showed that this was a great calorie burner and that is very important to me.
Negatives? Becuase the Bosu helps it's user develop good balance, it often takes some "situating" before you are completely in proper form to begin in many of these moves. However, the instructor sometimes moves a bit too fast through the moves not taking this into account. But hear me out... I am an intermediate Bosu user and was able to move fairly smoothly through the moves (with just a little difficulty on some) but when a friend borrowed it who was farily new to Bosu workouts she noted that she was frustrated because 1. The moves were too fast for her as she was still working on balance when the instructor was moving on speedily and 2. Some of the balance moves were too advanced for her level as she was just developing good balance through the Bosu so she had to self-adjust and figure out a different way of doing the move.
CONCLUSION: If you are an imtermediate Bosu user who already has good balance and can move quickly through the moves, you will find this workout a new and fresh way to add strength and muscle that utilizes the usual Bosu fun. Additionally, you'll have good caloric burn and utilize muscles you wouldn't otherwise if not using the Bosu for balance and core strength. However, if you are new to the Bosu or still developing good balance, you may find yourself slightly frustrated and may wish to start out with the dvd that is included in most Bosu purchases. After doing that one for a spell, move on to this one and you'll gain great muscle tone and continue to increase your core and balance strength!

I bought this off of an infomercial three (maybe more) years ago and I still love the workouts. The DVDs give you the option of running through the workout in order, or using shuffle to change it up. The 25 minute core workout is effective given the short time frame and the advanced workout is truly challenging. I actually enjoy that Gunnar has the viewer standing, sitting and moving around. It helps pass the time. I'm glad to see that Amazon still sells this as I've recently recommended this workout to several friends. My stability ball has survived two moves and is still going strong. Overall I was very happy with this product and only wish that Gunnar made more workouts for me to buy.
