Slendertone Men's System Abs Toning Belt Review

If you notice almost all of the negative reviews for these type products are from people who have NOT used the product. I am am exercise physiologist and I know the products work - as long as your expectations are reasonable. They will strengthen your abdominal muscles and obliques - they will NOT trim the fat from your waist.
A single charge of the batteries lasts for 20-30 sessions. In three months of use 5 days a week, I have charges mine 3 times.
The stimulation is intense at high levels. The thicker your abdominal fat pad the lower the intensity of the stimulation will be for you. I am currently out of shape and have about a 1" abdominal fat pad - 75 is pretty intense.
SECRET - The gel pads do wear out in about one month - but, if you will do the following they will last at least three months and still be in good shape. Make sure you put the plastic covers back on the pads immediately after use. Before each use, wet your fingers with warm water and wet the gel surface - this will maintain the water level in the gel for months of use.
Use the belt. It will not work on the shelf. It takes at least 30-60 days to begin to see (feel) the results. If you use it the abs will come.
If you really want to SEE the newly developing abs, you MUST loose the fat. Stick to a healthy diet with portion control.
My only complaint is with the connection between the control unit and the belt. It is flimsy and I expect it to break too soon. I often get screen error I think are related to this connection. But if I firm up the connection and restart the unit it works like new.

BodyCraft Jones Light Commercial with 7-Foot 45-Pound Steel Power Bar Review

BodyCraft Jones Light Commercial with 7-Foot 45-Pound Steel Power Bar
Average Reviews:

Design makes it better than a smith and better than a power rack. Solid construction - feels like a commercial machine found in a gym. It would be nice if the uprights had some built-in weight racks. Great for solo lifting but don't get carried away, be sensible.

Combining the versatility of a power rack with the safety of a Smith machine, the BodyCraft Jones is ideal for the solo lifter. Unlike traditional power racks, the Jones offers a 45-pound steel power bar that "racks" into place with a simple twist of the wrist. As a result, lifters don't need a spotter to perform squats, bench presses, or shoulder presses, as the Jones acts as a self-spotter instead. Users can even add adjustable safety spotters for that extra measure of security. Lifters will also appreciate the unit's patented 3D barbell motion, which provides for an almost unlimited array of exercises. By engaging the spring pins along the bottom, lifters can lock the Jones into place at three different positions: front, middle, or rear. This allows for traditional Smith machine exercises without requiring an actual Smith machine. Plus, setting up for the next exercise has never been easier--just raise or lower the bar to the desired starting position, add the desired weight, and lift.
The Jones is constructed of tough 11-gauge steel, with moving parts that glide smoothly on industrial-grade linear bearings and solid hardened steel guide rods. The steel bar, meanwhile, offers a total capacity of 1,000 pounds, making it suitable for heavy lifters. And at 42 by 83 by 54.5 inches (W x H x D), the Jones doesn't take up a ton of space. Ideal for both novice and competitive lifters, the Jones carries different warranties depending on your intended use. Light commercial users will enjoy a two-year warranty on parts and a 10-year warranty on the frame, while residential users will enjoy a lifetime warranty.

BodyCraft K2 Home Gym Review

BodyCraft K2 Home Gym
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying that this is an absolute first rate piece of equipment. I'm the type of person who researches a purchase like this to death before actually making it, and I could find no manufacturer of exercise equipment out there with a better reputation than Bodycraft. And get this - when you call their 800 number a HUMAN BEING answers the phone! To me, this is priceless.
Also, I put my entire gym together all by myself. My wife did help with discarding the mountain of boxes and plastic packaging that accumulated, but refused to assist with the actual assembly because of her unfounded notion that I'm too much of a perfectionist.
Anyway, solo assembly does allow one an intimate familiarity with the unit. Not only was every piece there that was supposed to be there, everything actually fit just like it should. During the whole assembly process (and close examination of each individual part), I could find NO instance where quality appeared to be compromised in any way.
I mean - the manufacturer warranties every single piece of the thing for as long as you live, so do the math. And buy it while you're young.
So of all the gym's Bodycraft makes, why did I choose the K2? In a word - SQUATS! Everything I've ever learned about fitness tells me that squats are the best single exercise you can do. And that's one exercise that's noticeably absent in most home gyms. Sure, you can do leg curls and extensions, and some even throw in a leg press. But nothing beats squats for total fitness - and this machine allows you to do them to total exhaustion, in total safety.
And when you throw in the upper, lower, and mid level cable pulleys - plus the movable arms (an idea borrowed from Bowflex's Revolution), I'd defy anyone to tell me an exercise you can't do on this gym.
Okay, now that I've got everything thinking I'm probably a Bodycraft stockholder or something, I'm going to try to pick this thing apart. So here's some bad stuff.
First of all, this thing is EXPENSIVE! I know that you get what you pay for, blah blah blah - but $3400 is still a lot of cash to lay out for exercise stuff. That's why you should buy it while you're young so the warranty will be longer, and you'll have more years over which to amortize the cost.
Also, it comes in about a gillion boxes - none of which are even remotely light weight or easy to handle. (There's a down side to buying quality stuff - It weighs more.) It could be argued that anyone capable of muscling all these boxes into the assembly area is already in great shape, and probably doesn't need the gym anyway.
And if you haven't achieved all your fitness goals getting all the parts in your basement, don't worry. By the time you get everything unpackaged and laid out in some sort of recognizable order, you will have.
But alas, the actual assembly process isn't all that bad. The instructions are very concise and easy to follow, and having virtually every piece machined to perfection certainly helps.
One word of caution though - leave all the nuts, bolts, washers, etc. that are in labeled bags IN THOSE BAGS! The instructions will reference those parts based on those labels. If you take them out, you'll have to measure each individual bolt to figure out whether or not it's the one you're looking for.
Oh... and don't forget to drink lots of fluids.
Once assembly is complete though, and you get a little feel for the K2, you'll realize that the lifetime warranty Bodycraft gives you probably isn't ever going to come into play. This is one well built gym!
On a somewhat funny side-note, I had ordered Bowflex's DVD a few weeks prior, and they called me about the time I'd finished putting the K2 together to see if I was ready to order a new Bowflex. After explaining that I'd bought a Bodycraft over the Bowflex - because I'd never seen a Bowflex in a commercial gym, etc., the lady thanked my politely and told me whenever I get ready to UPGRADE to a Bowflex, to give them a call.
Folks, trust me on this one - If you own this gym, the word "upgrade" isn't even applicable. And if you've endured the assembly process, you ain't gonna be changing nothing for quite awhile!
But after living with the K2 for about a month now, I have 3 gripes:
1. When you're trying to "guesstimate" the weight you're lifting on the bench press, I don't think they made allowances for the actual weight of the bar assembly you're lifting. For example, 100 lbs. of free weights is considerably lighter than 100 lbs. on the K2.
2. I love the isolation of doing "dumbbell presses" on the cable arms, and find the little balls on the ends of the cables that rest against the pulley don't float like they do on cheaper machines. These things seem to want to rake across my arms just north of the elbows causing annoying little bruises.
3. There's a little feeder pulley on the end of each movable arm that doesn't seem to be of the same quality of the other pulleys. Hence, when the cable contacts this pulley, it makes a slight noise it doesn't otherwise make. I know that no one other than someone like me would probably even notice this, but it bothers me since it seems to be about the only flaw on an otherwise really well thought out machine.
In summary, if you're looking for a commercial quality gym for the home, you've got about 10' X 12' of good solid floor space, and $3,400 to invest in your future health, I can't imagine investing it more wisely.
And if you happen to live in the Cincinnati, OH area, check out Exercise & Leisure Co. They're a great bunch of guys, match whatever price you'll find online, and they'll deliver it AND even put it together for you if you don't live too far away.

Shape your body, get strong, and lose weight with the BodyCraft K2 strength training system. The K2 is distinguished by its dual weight stack system, which can accommodate multiple users at the same time or quicker transitions for the single user. It's ideal for couples who want to make their workouts more efficient, or for folks who want to keep their pulse rate high while circuit training. The K2 offers two main stations. Station one incorporates a press/row/squat arm for safe, machine-style bench presses, decline presses, incline presses, shoulder presses, leveraged rows, and squats, with an adjustable bench that accommodates all the traditional angles (the bench slides out of the way for squats). The unique doubling feature, meanwhile, provides a 1:2 ratio for presses and squats, thereby delivering up to 400 pounds of resistance on the 200-pound weight stack. The press arm is even strong enough for dips and folds out of the way for dumbbell work.
Station two includes fully adjustable training/cable arms that support more than 100 exercises, including every exercise you've ever performed with dumbbells. Also a great station for sport-specific exercises, the station offers a high pulley for lat pulldowns and tricep pushdowns, a self-aligning leg extension/leg curl option, and a mid pulley for ab crunches and tricep extensions. And to make each exercise easier to perform, BodyCraft mounted exercise charts right on the machine.
Construction details include heavy-gauge steel tubing; 4.5-inch diameter, fiberglass-reinforced nylon pulleys with sealed ball bearing hubs; internally lubricated cables rated at 2,000 pounds of tensile strength; extremely dense foam upholstery with double-stitched, heavy-gauge vinyl covers; 1.25-inch-thick, precision-milled weight plates with EZ Glide nylon bushings; and a platinum gray powder-coated finish. The K2 measures 132 by 83 by 120 inches (W x H x D) and comes with a straight bar, lat bar, ankle strap, ab strap, hand grips, and a workout DVD.

Slendertone Women's System Abs Toning Belt Review

Slendertone Women's System Abs Toning Belt
Average Reviews:

First of all, I am a man, but since my waist is one size too small, I had to buy a women's size belt. I've had this product for about a month now. I had a flat abs before, but the definition was too shy to show. Now my friends said that the definitions are showing. I'd wear it when I walk/jog on the treadmill, lift weights, drive to/from work, average about an hour and a half each day. A friend of mine is going to buy a set. One thing you have to keep in mind though: I am fit, work out 4 times a week, have a carefully planned and balanced diet. I just wanted my abs to show the six-pack that I have worked so hard for.

Cathe Friedrich's STS Mesocycle #1 (12 DVD set) Review

Cathe Friedrich's STS Mesocycle #1 (12 DVD set)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What I liked
1. Amazing quality
2. Newer moves
3. Challenging with a lot of variety. Comes with 12 discs.
4. Workouts are mapped out for you. You use 3 discs a week and do 2 days of cardio of your own choice. These workouts are only strength training. This review is of mesocycle 1 only.
What I didn't like
1. You can't just push play. This series banks highly on finding your 1-rep max. If you don't pick a weight that is challenging you'll probably think this series is to easy. Your last rep has to leave you struggling.
2. Way to much time is spent on equipment set up. If you don't have a large workout space like me you'll find this really annoying. The list of equipment is large here. Dumbbells 3-30lbs (depending on your ability), step (and mini step if you have it) with at least 4 risers on each side, barbell (up to 40-50lbs depending on your ability), medium tension band, chair, gliding discs (or paper plates), stability ball, and over the door tubing for pull up style exercises if you don't have a pull up tower.
3. The music truly disappointed me. I was used to the high energy upbeat music on her other DVD's. It is hard to explain what it is like but if you want a sample her website has nice previews. That is pretty much what you get as far as music is concerned. It was hardly motivating to me.
4. Price, way to expensive! And to charge extra for a workout guide and abs. I mean you would expect that for this price you'd get more.
5. Packaging is terrible. I foresee this thing falling apart real quick and for the price I had to pay that is truly disappointing.
Summary
Is this a P90X knock off (for everyone that might get offended by this comment lets face it and truth is that Tony's P90X came out first), . . .well yeah of course it is. I have P90X did one rotation and never did it again (I just didn't like Tony's style) so STS is obviously better to me. You'll notice certain similarities such as the phrase "Get ready set go", the clip board writing down your weight thing, and the stopping to get a drink of water. What I did like about P90X that STS did not have was the fact that P90X did not have a whole lot of equipment needed. I mean it is hard enough to fit in 1 hour a day having to need more money for equipment does not exactly make this attainable for everyone and P90X came with just about everything STS comes with for cheaper. Yes you get more DVD's with STS (if you buy all three cycles) but I didn't feel like the variety with all the extra DVD's was enough to make it worth having to charge more. I preferred having Cathe's premixes as in other workouts. You will see a whole lot of repeat moves in these 12 discs that it makes you wonder why they just didn't lessen the number of discs, . . I mean more is not always better. Oh did I mention that set up time is irritating and time consuming.
Is it worth it, . . . .
Unfortunately I can't say that it is. If you are a true Cathe fan such as myself buy it, but only if you have disposable income. Your library would not be complete. If not and you are wondering if there is something cheaper and just as effective yeah, there is get her Gym Style series, legs, chest, shoulders, biceps, and triceps and back series. This is cheaper and truly effective. You will need a step, dumbbells, barbell, ball, and band though.
Does it work?
Heck yeah Cathe works, I haven't finished this whole series but I would not doubt its effectiveness. Since I started my home workouts with Cathe back in 2000 I now run 20-25 miles a week can do 40 "boy" push ups in a row and 3 pull ups (okay I'm still working on increasing that to 10) but at 33 I'm stronger and leaner than I have ever been in my life. I have muscle definition in my arms and legs and my kids think I'm "cool." Cathe is totally awesome, but unfortunately I would have to say that this series was not worth the money. Heck you can't win them all.
Oh one other thing. If you do plan on buying buy from Amazon. This seller actually has a return policy and if you buy from Cathe direct it is all final sale no returns.

Total Gym XLS Review

Total Gym XLS
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used the Total Gym XLS for about nine months now. There's no question about the concept and quality of the workouts. I primarily use it as an all-around body workout to start the day. The endless possibilities make it very versatile and keep workouts fresh.
I am 5' 10", 185 lbs, not near the advertised maximum recommended capacity of 400 lbs.
I am not pleased with the overall quality. When I spend the extra money for the top end model, I have high expectations. This model has failed to meet them, and I wonder if I would have been just a well served with one of the two lower end units. The wheels and bearing are just not top end quality. My unit started to become creaky and squeaky right about the six month point, but it wasn't until it became distractingly noise and rough at about the eight month point that I became concerned.
The parts have a six month warranty. Even if I had taken action within this period, I would be facing the same issue again shortly (I assume). I ended up purchasing after-market wheel/bearing from Huck Products for $75 (inc S/H). The machine now feels like I had expected, better than original. Butter smooth.
The additional features of the XLS over the other models include (with my comments):
400 lb weight capacity for total strength and stability (if an average 185# user wore out the wheels....??)
Upgraded comfort system (True...good quality)
Upgraded pulley and cable system (No problems yet)
Flexible nylon strap handles (These are upgrades for lesser models; haven't tried the other style for comparison)
Upgraded squat stand (Again, an upgrade for other models)
Padded glideboard with head support (Redundant...see second item)
Chrome package (whoopee)
Exercise capability - over 80 exercises (OK...not quite sure why the lower models show 40 and 60...must not have some of the attachments)
With the exception of the first feature (400#), I cannot complain. There is no doubt the XLS is clearly a much better machine than the models carried in Dicks or Sears.

The Total Gym 2000 and 3000 advertise max capacities of 250 and 300 lbs respectively. More research into the quality of those models' wheels/bearings should be part of any comparisons. It might be worthwhile to buy either of these models and upgrade to Huck's high quality wheels (they have other parts as well) when the time comes.
3 stars is a bit of a low-balled exaggeration. If I could, I would say 3.8 on my subjective Amazon scale. Just under my 4.0 threshold of mostly satisfied and glad I made the purchase. But rounding up to 4 stars minimizes my current dismay at shelling out $75 a few months after the warranty period.
I will post this review on the Total Gym Direct where I purchased it (for ~$[...], not the current ~$[...])...let's see if it makes it past the editors.

Want to tone your entire body without buying a space-hogging fitness machine? Turn to the Total Gym XLS, a top-of-the-line device that helps you strengthen and sculpt every major muscle group in your body using a single glide board and a few handy attachments. The Total Gym XLS works by making you lift a percentage of your body weight against gravity, creating a smooth and fluid resistance. As your strength and conditioning improve, you increase the total resistance by boosting the incline, thus increasing the body weight lifted in the exercise. The Total Gym XLS not only works your upper body, but also your lower body, abdominals, and even your cardiovascular system. And by reducing body fat and increasing the proportion of lean muscle mass in your body, the strength training effectively turns up the thermostat so that your body burns calories constantly.
The Total Gym XLS offers several upgrades over previous models, helping it set the standard for fitness excellence. The upgrades include a new pulley and cable system, an improved squat stand, and more comfortable padding on the glide board. The device also comes with several handy accessories that add a new dimension to your workout: a Pilates kit that helps you improve your range of motion and balance; a leg pull accessory that works your quads, hamstrings, and other muscles; flexible nylon strap handles; and a wing attachment for toning various back and arm muscles. Combined, the accessories and glide board support up to 400 pounds, letting users with a variety of body types work on strength and stability.
The Total Gym XLS also comes with a complete line of workouts and workout tools, taking the guesswork out of getting into shape. The workouts and tools include:

Start It Up: An introductory Total Gym XLS workout
6-8 Minute Workout: 12 work-along workouts for men and women pressed for time
Smart Training Workout: An efficient workout employing slow, precise movements to target specific muscles
Pilates for Total Gym: Enjoy the incredible benefits of a Pilates workout without leaving the home
Body Makeover for Total Gym: High-energy, high-powered workout
Simple at-a-glance exercise wall chart with 35 exercises

Dan Isaacson's nutritional program and meal plan

About Total Gym Total Gym made its initial mark in rehabilitation centers, where its main focus was aiding people recovering from physical injuries and obstacles. The device is the perfect rehabilitation tool for several reasons: the smooth, gliding motion is easy on the joints; the various height levels accommodate every fitness level; and the padded glide board provides excellent support for the back. After years of success in the rehabilitation field, the product's inventors introduced the product to Chuck Norris 30 years ago. Norris--who calls it his "lean, mean exercise machine"--still uses the Total Gym today as his primary home fitness device. Christie Brinkley has also been a devoted user for more than 10 years, and uses it to stay lean and fit even through two children and a hectic schedule.
