(More customer reviews)I own the the Slendertone Electronic Muscle Stimulator. I saw this product on their website, for about $20 more than on Amazon. I had a gap in my workout routine between Martial Arts class, Total Gym (yes I will buy what Chuck tells me to), and the post workout use of the EMS unit.
When I use the EMS stim unit, I often will walk around the house. I wanted to get a tandem resistance routine with the EMS running. Oftentimes, if I try to get in a Total Gym workout at the same time, it is disconcerting.
I purchased this product to get upper body resistance training in while at the same time running an EMS routine. The motion is very simple. Being driven by a piston. The unit will measure how much force you apply on the reps while you perform the excercise. It also tracks and customizes a workout routine for you which is changing to suit.
One knock on the product is in the User interface. I had to read the manual twice before grasping 1) How to set the excercise the program calls for. 2) Which program I wanted to use to achieve my objective. Once past this, I became very happy with it.

I am am exercise physiologist and I know the products work - as long as your expectations are reasonable. They will strengthen your abdominal muscles and obliques - they will NOT trim the fat from your waist.
A single charge of the batteries lasts for 20-30 sessions. In three months of use 5 days a week, I have charges mine 3 times.
The stimulation is intense at high levels. The thicker your abdominal fat pad the lower the intensity of the stimulation will be for you. I am currently out of shape and have about a 1" abdominal fat pad - 75 is pretty intense.
SECRET - The gel pads do wear out in about one month - but, if you will do the following they will last at least three months and still be in good shape. Make sure you put the plastic covers back on the pads immediately after use. Before each use, wet your fingers with warm water and wet the gel surface - this will maintain the water level in the gel for months of use.
Use the belt. It will not work on the shelf. It takes at least 30-60 days to begin to see (feel) the results. If you use it the abs will come.
If you really want to SEE the newly developing abs, you MUST loose the fat. Stick to a healthy diet with portion control.
My only complaint is with the connection between the control unit and the belt. It is flimsy and I expect it to break too soon. I often get screen error I think are related to this connection. But if I firm up the connection and restart the unit it works like new.

Well, let me just say this: Yes and No. You have to be in shape to see those results. I am 20 pounds overweight, as I try to lose weight. However, when I look in the mirror and suck my stomach in, I see the ab muscles that I have never seen before. I am already in my 30th session and I know I will see more results as time goes on. If you are an average weight and want to see and strenghten your ab muscles, this should do the trick, because it STRENGHTENS your ab muscles, it doesn't just paint them on your stomach. So if you are 100 pounds overweight and expect to see rock-hard abs in a week, I wouldn't recommend this product. However, if you are trying to lose weight and/or already in good shape but have weak and underdeveloped abs, you may consider investing in this. How do I know this? This device sends vibration to your abs and has levels from 1 to 99, with 1 beaing weakest and 99 being the most intense. During the first few days, I couldn't handle the sensations over 50 as I felt like somebody grabbed me by my stomach and wouldn't let go, but now, I can easily handle vibrations over 85, which means my abs did become stronger than a month before!
Other things to consider: You will invest $150 into this and possible $15 per month on new pads as they slowly get stretched and deteriorate. With that type of investment, you can easily joiin a gym membership, if you think about it.
Bottom Line: A good buy if used properly but expensive considering the alternatives such as gym, where you can excersise your whole body, as Selndertone Flex just targets one part of the body.

(More customer reviews)I know the way these products are advertised make you think that they will make a fat person thin, but they don't. It gave good ab definition, but left the layer of fat until i worked out. It did speed up the process giving better and quicker ab results than I normally do when I only work out after a good winter hibernation. Before I had a little roll by my lower abs that I could never get rid off and now it's gone. It didn't happen overnight, been using it regularly for the past 2 months. Really saw results after 3-4 weeks, but started working out daily after the second week of owning. Ab workouts also felt easier.
Other info you should know that I couldn't find much info on before buying... The gel pads (I found) do have to be replaced every 35-40 uses. It also really helps to shave the abdominal area where you are using the pads as it improves pad life and effectiveness. I remember someone saying that the charger plug is flimsy; I didn't find it to be flimsy at all. It uses a SATA type connector that you would find on a computer or hard drive.
I would like to find out from anyone if the connector works on the bicep tricep attatchment.

They have a phone number that automatically puts you on hold when you call, no automated voice that lets you select what you are calling for at all, just the hold music. No one picked up, sat on the phone literally waiting for 45 minutes with no one picking up. I watched an entire tv show waiting for this. Tried emailing them twice with no response, Amazon even responded reminding me that I had sent an email to them but the company did no such thing. All I wanted was an exchange, not even a refund, just so I could get a working belt. This company is completely shady with no customer support at all, never ever buy from them because you will never be able to contact anyone in case something goes wrong.

I am a long time fan/user of electronic muscle stim as a supplement to my regular workouts, and this product made my arms incredibly sore in the way that lets me know the muscles received a great stimulation. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to add to their routine. A recent article in the Wall Street journal talked about how stim will NOT make you toned but it will make your muscles stronger. I use this product along with a regular gym routine to train my bi's and tri's.
EDIT - April 2010 - have had this product for 4 months now and wanted to amend my review. The little metal clips where the power pack attaches to the arm unit are a bit flimsy. Mine have come out about 3 times and I was lucky enough to find them and put them back into their sockets. I had to use pliers to force it back in. For a $100 item this should not be the case, I still use it and it works - but I would change my review to 4 stars based on this annoyance.
